I wanted to talk a little bit about a particular feature that I utilize to make this series even more unique, and that’s the “chapter blurbs” that you see at the beginning of each chapter for those of you that chose to read a sample of Book One: Dark Deception (Summer-Fall 2023 release):
“To live without purpose is less than living at all, whereas to live with a heart of determination and a soul full of glory is to live now and forever.” -Vallahar: Valkan God of Life, Death, and the Afterworld
For starters, I wanted to do something that you not only see seldom, but also give a little more “flavor” and explanation as to “why” these nations are the way that they are; the way that they operate on a day-to-day basis and believe in the things that they believe.
As you can see, each chapter has its own unique blurb. Whether it originates from one of the Valkan, Dwarven, Elven Gods or one of the “Anonymous” blurbs; they all have a little something that makes them different, but as you may have also noticed – the blurbs also make the nations very alike in a lot of ways.
God of war, peace, life, death, weather, materials, etc., they all serve to “guide” their people to appreciating and respecting their surroundings (i.e. nature, the climate, etc.), or to remain loyal, seek out knowledge, build strength in self and others, and so on.
Also important – the blurbs themselves – if you can gather them all analytically, show that their intent is to create balance within each nation’s society. Whether God of War, Life, Death, Sustenance, etc., they all serve a purpose to their people and together there is a centralized message that creates a sense of unity and purpose within each of their societies.
What exactly does this mean…? Well, as you can see, war is often mentioned but so is peace, it’s not a “you can’t have one without the other” necessarily, but they exist to ensure that there is an understanding of when you must lift up your sword and/or shield, or… love and respect life, or… the gifts of nature are yours, but when you take – you must also give and return. It’s a pendulum – if you will, and so long as you respect the integrity of it – it will always maintain itself and your needs.
